ICYMI: VERN BUCHANAN IS CHANGING HIS PRE-EXISTING POSITION

ICYMI: REPUBLICANS ARE RUNNING AWAY FROM THEIR RECORD ON ELIMINATING PROTECTIONS FOR PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS
“VERN BUCHANAN IS CHANGING HIS PRE-EXISTING POSITION TO PRETEND HE’LL PRESERVE PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS”
SARASOTA — Republicans everywhere are running from their records on health care, and especially on their votes to end coverage for pre-existing conditions — Congressman Vern Buchanan among them. Here’s what the press is saying:
Vox: “Republicans are lying about their position on pre-existing conditions, and voters have a right to know that.”
Washington Post: “Somewhere, somehow, a memo must have gone out to Republican lawmakers who voted for the American Health Care Act (AHCA), the Republican bill to repeal and replace Obamacare: If you are attacked for undermining protections for people with existing health problems, jab back by saying the claim got Four Pinocchios from The Washington Post. That’s not true. Republicans are twisting an unrelated fact check and are misleading voters.”
Think Progress: “Ahead of the midterm elections, Republicans are positioning themselves as members of the party that will protect people with pre-existing conditions. But this campaign strategy simply doesn’t match up with their voting record on health care.”
Grassroots advocacy organization Floridians for a Fair Shake has called out Buchanan for his health care lies. Floridians for a Fair Shake Communications Director Stephen Gaskill puts it in perspective:
“Vern Buchanan is changing his pre-existing position to pretend he’ll preserve pre-existing conditions. Here’s the record: He voted to strip protections for pre-existing conditions from 7.8 million Floridians, including more than 273,000 of his own constituents. He voted to take away health care from Floridians, including 64,000 of his own constituents. Vern Buchanan has been using his congressional seat as his own piggy bank, and ignoring the needs of the district. The only way to change Congress and preserve coverage for pre-existing conditions is to vote Vern out and vote David Shapiro in.”
