CONGRESSMAN HITS NEW MILESTONE: 550 DAYS SINCE HIS LAST TOWN HALL

SARASOTA — The last time Congressman Vern Buchanan held a town hall with his constituents was March 18, 2017 — 550 days ago. Why is he hiding? Is it because he voted to repeal health care, bring back exemptions for pre-existing conditions, and raise insurance premiums on seniors by $12,500? Or is it because he helped write the #TrumpTax law that overwhelmingly benefited millionaires like himself and not average Floridians, and gave himself a $2 million tax break so he could purchase a multi-million dollar yacht the same day? Or maybe it’s because he helped author the newest #TaxScam2 that makes permanent the provision on pass-through deductions, meaning he stands to gain many, many millions of dollars more? (Luxury yachts are expensive to maintain.)

Floridians for a Fair Shake Communications Director Stephen Gaskill issued the following statement on the missing Congressman:

“People of the district are legitimately asking ‘Where’s Vern?’ It’s been 550 days since his last town hall, meaning he’s had minimal interaction with his constituents since March 18, 2017. We know he’s been busy writing tax bills that benefit his businesses and meeting with foreign banks about loans for his new multimillion dollar luxury yacht. But even now, after more than a year and a half since his last town hall, when there’s a congressional district work period that should have him at home, we need to ask: Where’s Vern?”
