UPDATED ADVISORY: HEALTH CARE TOWN HALLS TO FOCUS ON COMMUNITY NEEDS, COSTS & ACCESS

Sarasota and Port St. Lucie Events on Saturday Feature Experts, Highlight Floridians’ Pleas to Congress

Congressmen Vern Buchanan and Brian Mast Invited to Participate

WEST PALM BEACH — Grassroots advocacy organization Floridians for a Fair Shake is sponsoring Health Care Community Town Halls Saturday in Sarasota and Port St. Lucie to hear Floridians’ concerns about needs, costs and access. The Trump administration and Congressional Republicans, unable to repeal health care outright, have been sabotaging health care (slashing fundingbreaking promises about containing drug costs, and suspending insurer payments) resulting in rising costs, reduced access and general uncertainty about the health care system. The return of exclusions for pre-existing conditions puts more than 7.8 million Floridians at risk of losing their coverage altogether.

Both Health Care Community Town Halls will feature health care and policy professionals as well as the participation of community members who will share their stories, discuss their challenges, and express their concerns for our health care system and what they expect from policymakers and elected officials.

Fair Shake has invited Congressman Vern Buchanan to the Sarasota Town Hall, and Congressman Brian Mast to the Port St. Lucie Town Hall. We have not received a response. Both Mast and Buchanan have voted to repeal health care, and both voted for massive tax breaks for millionaires, billionaires and wealthy corporations in the #TrumpTax bill, seemingly unconcerned of the impact that bill would have on access to health care for Floridians by repealing the ACA’s individual mandate. Buchanan is under fire for purchasing a multi-million dollar yacht on the same day he voted for the tax bill that gave himself a giant tax cut.
