WE MUST PROTECT SOCIAL SECURITY AS A LIFELINE FOR SENIORS

The Program’s 83rd Anniversary Offers an Opportunity to Reflect on its Critical Importance to Florida Families

SARASOTA — Grassroots organization Floridians for a Fair Shake, advocating for an economy that works for everyone and affordable health care for all, recognizes the key role Social Security has played for Florida families for generations. On the 83rd anniversary of the program, communications director Stephen Gaskill issued the following statement:

“The debates we’re having over taxes and health care come into stark focus on today’s anniversary of Social Security. As Republicans in Congress and the Administration continue to tilt our economy toward the wealthiest Americans, it is incumbent upon us to protect our seniors and support them as thriving and active members of our society. Ensuring Social Security remains solvent for future generations — who are paying into the system and will in turn expect the program to be there for them — is a necessity. Social Security is one of the most successful and impactful programs enacted by the federal government and its legacy must be honored.”
